Speed Bumps, Roadkill, and Stop Signs:
A Story on How Driver’s Education Helped Me Recognize and Appreciate How I Learn.

Take a moment and picture yourself in the driver’s seat as a driver’s education student.  You are sweating, gripping the steering wheel, hitting the breaks hard, and your instructor is judging you every minute.  The day comes, and you take the final test.  You pass, and you now have the freedom to drive. What a wonderful memory.

Get your bags pack and journey with Mr. Z down memory lane.  Through this interactive, entertaining, revealing, and moving experience, Mr. Z will talk about how driver’s education was his path to recognize and appreciate himself as a person diagnosed with a learning disability.  Mr. Z will discuss his unique and fun acceptance process by teaching how to recognize speed bumps, watching out for road kill, and the importance of stop signs.

Ring Around the Rosie: The Importance of Play for All Children

Free play is underrated in today’s goal orientated, fast-paced, and media-driven society. But without play, children lose out on growing their emotional, physical, and cognitive health.  As educators, we delight ourselves in knowing play is central to the daily lives of children. With this awareness, greater attention is on the spaces and programs we provide in our center have learned through play at their heart.

The importance of play to a child’s health and well-being and the value it has will be the area of focus for this presentation. Some of the elements of the presentation include an overview of play research, the elements that construct the definition of play, the importance of play to the stages of child development, and how to develop a play toolbox for your program.

This presentation brings the concepts of play to life through audience participation.  Throughout the presentation, Mr. Z will have a variety of interactive and humorous components from parachutes, roller blades, sand, a cardboard playhouse, and more to demonstrate the play experience.
